IHU Strasbourg, April 2023.
The IHU is proud to announce the launch of the 5G-OR Consensus Project.
Effectively managing data flow, computing, and storage is critical in surgical contexts and requires advanced networks with leading technologies such as 5G, 6G, and Edge Computing. These advanced connectivity technologies serve as the backbone for high-bandwidth, low-latency, reliable connectivity that healthcare organizations need in order to offer real-time surgical care.
Following this concept, the 5G-OR program aims to establish the next generation of a 5G-enabled operating room (OR) eco-system to improve patient outcomes. The value of 5G will be shown in 4 relevant use cases in 3 OR test environments equipped with interoperable 5G infrastructures in hospitals in Strasbourg, Berlin and Mannheim.
As part of the project, the 5G-OR Consensus Research Committee is conducting an Online Delphi consensus program that highlights the importance of high-performance wireless data transfer in the operating room and identifies gaps in knowledge and investment that need to be addressed to optimize the data pipeline in surgical care.
The project plans to validate this by inviting 50 international panel experts to participate in the consensus, by employing three rounds of an e-Delphi methodology.
The 5G-OR Consensus Project is a step towards surgical digitalization, and we look forward to the insights and contributions of international experts in this exciting initiative.
Stay tuned for updates on the 5G-OR Consensus Project.
