IHU Strasbourg has unveiled the 2027 programme for the ITEC (International Therapeutic Endoscopic Ultrasound Course). In response to the growing demand for training in this complex technique, the course, led by Dr Leonardo Sosa-Valencia and his team, will offer three sessions next year:

  • 27–29 January, 2027
  • 23–25 June, 2027
  • 24–26 November, 2027

An intensive, practice-focused training course

The ITEC course is aimed at gastroenterologists and experienced endosonographers who wish to incorporate therapeutic endosonography (TEUS) into their daily practice. The course combines lectures by international experts, analyses of complex clinical cases and intensive practical sessions.

Participants benefit from over 14 hours of supervised practical training (covering more than 10 procedures) at the IHU’s experimental facility. Using in vivo and ex vivo models, as well as high-fidelity simulated tissues, pairs of doctors practise the main advanced procedures:

  • Drainage of pancreatic collections and cysts,,
  • Guided biliary drainage (cholecystostomy, hepatogastrostomy),
  • Radiofrequency ablation, percutaneous neurolysis and embolisation using surgical glue and coils,
  • Fine-needle biopsy (FNB) & Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNA),
  • And much more to discover in the program.

State-of-the-art technical facilities

Access to the institute’s equipment—for both endoscopy and imaging—faithfully replicates the actual conditions of an interventional suite. Supervision by international specialists ensures an immersive learning experience in real clinical settings.

Two registration options:

  • Group A:  Comprehensive training with intensive hands-on practice (max. 16 participants with experience in diagnostic EUS or ERCP), with the option to include an assistant or a nurse (max. 4 participants).
  • Group B: Observer track (max. 4 participants) with access to lectures, discussions, and observation of practical sessions.

The program meets the criteria of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and holds international academic accreditation (UEG), which is currently being renewed for 2027.
